ORITI AND HERSHBERGER CROWNED GRAND SPECIAL WINNERS

Lakeville,Oh 6/27/08

Threatening weather in the entire area around The New Lakeville Speedway did not slow down the action that the drivers provided for the race fans on Friday evening with the running of the the first of two Pure Stock/Mini Stock Grand Special events scheduled for the 2008 season.

After three qualifying heats in the Hamlin Racing Engines Pure Stocks with Roger Drouhard,Paul Harringer and Don Baney racing to the wins and a ten lap B Main gathered in by Murray Anderson,the field was set for the thirty lap $1000.00 to win contest.From the outside of the front row at the drop of the green Billy Goertz blasted to the point with Drouhard from fourth trailing the leader.Behind the two front runners,Bob Daugherty,Hud Wharton and Don Baney had joined the chase.The first of four cautions flags was displayed on lap ten just as the leaders were about to encounter lap traffic.The line up remained the same on the restart as Travis Mensching had joined the pack from his seventh starting spot as Drouhard made many attempts to pass Goertz for the lead.At several points in the first fifteen laps Goertz,Wharton,Drouhard and Baney was side by side for the lead as Daugherty fell back a couple of positions then charged back to the front.As the laps ticked off,Daugherty got around Drouhard and Wharton and had his sights on Goertz.On lap twenty five,Daugherty went to the bottom side in turn four for the pass on Goertz and the two made contact and both rolled to a stop sending them to the tail for the restart of the final five laps.While all this action was happening up front,several excellent races were taking place in mid pack with Frank Oriti working his way forward from his 9th starting spot,Sean Cain from fifth,Dave Haven Jr from eighth and Donna Canode blistering from starting fifteenth.The final five laps were just as exciting as the first twenty five were as Oriti charged to the front and recorded his fourth feature victory of the year with Cain second,Harringer getting third,Haven Jr.posting a fourth place finish and Canode rounding out the top five.

Twenty one Mini Stocks answered the bell in the Hague Crystal Clear Water sponsored division for thier thirty lap $1000.00 to win Grand Special.The first two rows saw Dustin Cyrus and Kyle Moore in the front row with Josh Hershberger and Mark Myers in row two.Cyrus wasted no time as he went to the point at the sign of the green as Hershberger tucked in behind the leader and Moore was third and from his seventh starting spot,Tyler Neel was shown in fourth running spot.Hershberger made his move on lap six to take the lead from Cyrus as Jordan James was coming from his tenth starting spot to put pressure on Moore.James got around Moore and moved up beside Cyrus and those two caused a caution flag on lap fourteen.While this action is going on,points leader Sean Rush was quickly moving to the front from starting ninth.No one had anything for Hershberger in the final stages of the feature as he rolled into the winner circle with his second win of the year in his Tri M Block,R&B Transmission sponsored entry.Neel gathered in second with Sean Rush third,Moore getting fourth and Jordan James fifth.Heat wins were won by Zach Foss,Jordan James and Justin Brown.

Gary Hensel Sr.went flag to flag to record his first feature win in the Tom's Salvage Classic Cruiser division.Hensel had won his heat race earlier in the evening and had redrawn the pole starting spot.Cody Radcliff had provided early race action with Hensel as John Mager joined the hunt.Points leader Charlie Dawson retired from the event on the first lap.At the finish,Hensel went to the winners circle in his Bargain Shed,and R&B Transmission sponsored cruiser with Steve Hinton Jr,second,John Mager third,Charles Short Fourth and Cody Radcliff fifth.

Tim Rush got his second victory trophy in the Rod Eddleblute Garage sponsored Mini Stock Novice division.He drove from a fourth place start to the win with Dustin Daugherty finishing second,Steve Foley third,Trevor Quicksall fourth and Cory Hornikel getting the fifth spot.

Jesse Combs made his first visit to Lakeville a good one as he got the checkered flag in the Mountain Dew Mini Truck A main.A good side by side race was given by points leader Todd Gallion and Scott Gray.Finishing second was Brandon Craver with Gallion third,Gail Wallace fourth and Dave Giauge fifth.
